~ PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE ~

Welcome to the KYSA 2010 youth soccer season.

THANK YOU to everyone who is stepping forward and volunteering their time and energy for the betterment of the children who choose to play the great game of soccer in our city!

The Kamloops Youth Soccer Association registers approximately 3500 youth soccer players annually, so you can imagine it takes a great deal of organization and time to get the season going. Players have to be registered and placed on teams. Schedules have to be drafted, uniforms and equipment ordered and sorted, and field requirements secured with the city parks and recreation department. Coaches and assistant coaches must be recruited and put in place; referees must be organized and allocated. KYSA also offers a number of coaching clinics that are generally offered pre-season in collaboration with the B.C. Soccer Association, and beginner referee training clinics are scheduled in partnership with the Kamloops Soccer Referee’s Association. We are also working closely with the KSRA to establish a mentorship program for our newer, younger officials this year.

In both House and Rep soccer, KYSA has made some major changes this year. Changes are made when there is a need for improvement either on the technical side or in the administration of our programs. Generally, we are here to help ensure the youth players we represent enjoy the game and provide opportunites for them to develop their skills. Most of all, we are here to provide the players with an opportunity to have fun playing our chosen sport. Input for these improvements generally come from coaches, players, parents, staff and board members.

Please keep in mind that Kamloops Youth Soccer Association is primarily a volunteer-driven organization that has the luxury of paid staff to carry out the day-to-day operation of our office and the various programs we offer! We appreciate your patience when there are a few glitches in the system.

We are all eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get out on the fields and enjoying another season of soccer as I'm sure you are!

From the desk of Graham Cope, President
Kamloops Youth Soccer Association
