 ~ 2009 KYSA SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ~

Kaitlin Olson is graduating from Valleyview Secondary with Academic excellence awards in 2007 and 2008. She played in the
Ladner Girls Soccer Club from 1997 to 2000 and joined the KYSA in 2001 where she began playing in the house leagues.
By 2003 she had progressed to the Rep program and has been a stalwart Rep level player ever since. She was a member of the
KYSA U-18 Girls Rep team that captured the 2009 Provincial B Cup in North Vancouver on July 5th. Olson scored two of her team’s
four goals in the final match, that the Blaze won, 4-1, over Prince George Kodiaks.

Kaitlin will begin her post-secondary education at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby this fall. She then plans on  moving
to the University of British Columbia and the Faculty of Medicine, where she hopes to become a doctor. She was invited to join the
SFU women’s soccer team next season, but had to decline because of the anticipated course demands. She hopes to play on a
women’s league team to stay involved in the game, however. In her spare time, Kaitlin has served in a variety of volunteer roles in her
community. In 2008 she traveled to Guatemala with her leadership teacher and four other students for two weeks of humanitarian work.

Lee Bauer is the 2009 Male Valedictorian at Sahali Secondary. He is an honour roll student in academics and plans on attending
Thompson-Rivers University where he is taking science courses leading, eventually, to a transfer to the University of Victoria where
he intends to pursue a degree in Kinesiology. Bauer has played soccer in the KYSA for twelve years, highlighted by his U-17 boys team’s
victory in the 2008 Provincial B Cup. He has also played in the Super Y program, with his high school soccer team, and now plays
on the U-21 Excel Reserve team. He also helped coach the Sahali senior girls team in 2008 and 2009.
