Speak Up and Ask for Help
We require all of our members to speak up if they feel there is an issue or if something doesn’t seem quite right. If there is an immediate threat or danger, please call 911 or the local RCMP right away.

Here are the steps that you can take when reporting an issue:
1) Speak with your coach (if appropriate)

Do Your Part to Create a Safe, Inclusive Environment
Coaches/Managers/Volunteers/Staff:
We appreciate the time and effort that all of our volunteers put in and want to ensure that they are responsible in providing youth with a safe, inclusive environment. If you have questions about how you can be better prepared, please contact the KYSA Office to discuss.
- Criminal Record Check/Volunteer Screening
- The KYSA requires that every staff member, board member, coach and volunteer complete an annual Criminal Record Check (CRC)
- The Rule of Two
- We expect coaches to be familiar with the Rule of Two.
- The Rule of Two asks coaches to always work in pairs and to never be alone with players, especially in potentially vulnerable situations
- Ethics Training
- KYSA will pay for every coach and manager take the Respect in Sport Activity Leaders program. Please contact the KYSA Office for more info.
- KYSA will pay for every head coach to take “Making Ethical Decisions” training through the NCCP.
Parents:
We encourage parents to be proactive when it comes to the safety of their children. If you notice anything suspicious or concerning, please contact the KYSA Office to discuss.
- Ask questions about our volunteer screening process if you are unsure.
- Talk to your coach if you have concerns. If concerns persist, contact the KYSA Office.
