TOURNAMENT RULES:
TOURNAMENT ELIGIBILITY:
Entry into the KYSA New Year’s Bash shall be limited to teams, which are properly affiliated with BC Soccer and/or other Provincial/State Associations.
Only properly registered players, in good standing, shall be permitted to participate in the tournament. All teams are responsible for all registration, permits and approvals within their club/district and/or any other jurisdiction and governing body. We are not responsible for confirming player eligibility and/or insurability and trust all teams will comply with any/all policies put in place by their governing bodies in regards to player/team eligibility to participate in this or any other sanctioned tournament.
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY:
If a team is from BC and the player is not registered with BC Soccer, the team must apply for a Short Term Event Player Permit for the player before December 20th. Contact office@kysa.net for more information on the permit process.
Overage players are not permitted unless written permission has been given by the tournament director at least 1 week prior to the event.
PLAYER REGISTRATION:
Players may only participate with one team. All players must be registered with their team at check-in. To be registered an individual must be listed on the team roster along with their full name, date of birth, and jersey number. Players must be able to provide proof of age upon request.
ROSTERS:
All rosters are frozen 30 minutes before the first kick-off of the division. Roster MAX = 12. Roster MIN = 5.
THE TEAM:
Games are 5v5. All teams will consist of 4 outfield players plus a goalkeeper (GK). The GK will wear a jersey that is different from their team, the opponents, and the referee. For the adult CoEd division – Teams must play with at least TWO individuals of the opposite gender on the field at all times.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Substitutions may occur ‘on the fly’ and players must enter and exit at the half-field mark only. The play will NOT be stopped to facilitate a GK substitution – substitution GKs must be ready to play the moment they step on the field.
EQUIPMENT:
All players must wear shin guards. Any player without shin guards will not be allowed to play. Teammates must wear a similar jersey. In the event of a colour conflict pinnies will be provided to the AWAY team (the team listed second on the schedule).
FIELD DIMENSIONS:
All divisions will play on a 25 x 30 yard field. The only exception are divisions with 7, 9, or 11 teams – in this event all teams will play on a 20 x 30 yard field. The field is well marked with lines. The walls and dividers are out of play.
THE GOAL:
Goal dimensions are roughly 3.5ft tall and 10ft wide.
GAME DURATION:
The game shall consist of a single period of 25 minutes. Any playoff game resulting in a draw will move to penalty kicks to determine the winner. All games will kick-off at their designated start times. Teams will have less than 5 minutes after the end of one game before the start of the next. Please leave the field immediately after the completion of your game and debrief away from the field.
GOAL SCORING:
A goal cannot be scored directly from the defensive half of the field. A goal may only be scored from a touch on the offensive half on the playing field.
SCORING (U14 and older):
The tournament will be scored on a 9-point system, as follows:
- 5 points for a win
- 2 points for a tie
- 1 point per goal, up to a maximum of 3
- 1 point for a shutout (0-0 counts as a shutout for both teams)
- FORFEITS:A forfeit is scored as 3-0
TIEBREAKERS (U14 and older):
In pool play, ties between two or more teams will be broken by; 1) head to head results between tied teams (2 teams only); 2) goal difference in pool play; 3) fewest goals against in pool play; 4) goals scored. If teams are still tied after all tiebreakers the system will automatically break the tie by system generated coin flip.
NO OFFSIDES: There will be no offsides.
SLIDING:
There is no sliding allowed. Players should not intentionally leave their feet and go to ground even to save a ball from going out. The goalkeeper is the only player permitted to go to the ground to make a save. Infractions will result in a direct free kick where the slide took place.
THE GOALKEEPER:
Goalkeepers are permitted to leave the penalty area but may not use their hands outside of the penalty area.
The goalkeeper can play the ball from their hands over any distance but may not kick it beyond the halfway line. Infractions will result in a goal kick for the opposing team.
RESTARTS
FIVE YARD RULE:
In all restart situations, defending players must stand five yards away from the ball. If the defensive team’s goal is closer than five yards, the ball is placed five yards from the goal area in line with the place of the penalty.
KICK OFFS:
May be taken in any direction. All kick-offs are considered direct.
KICK-INS:
The ball shall be kicked in to play from the sideline instead of thrown in. The kick-in will begin with a player from the team in possession putting their hand on the ball before restarting. All kick-ins are indirect.
FREE KICKS & CORNER KICKS:
All free kicks and corner kicks are direct. Opposing players cannot be within five (5) yards of the ball on any restart. Any infraction inside the penalty area other than what would be deemed a penalty will result in a direct free kick outside the penalty area (straight back from the point of the infraction).
GOAL KICKS:
May be taken from any point inside the goal area.
- On goal kicks, the attacking team must ‘retreat’ behind the half-way line. Once the goal kick has been taken, the attacking team can then cross the half-way line.
- Goal kicks cannot clear the half way line in the air, they can be played forward on the ground, or they can bounce before the half way line before crossing the half. Infractions will result in a goal kick for the opposing team.
PENALTY BREAKAWAYS:
Penalty kicks shall be awarded in the form of a ‘breakaway’. A penalty will be awarded if, in the referee’s opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by the infraction.
- The player must dribble from the center spot and cannot stop their forward movement, back up, or score on rebounds.
- The attacking player has three (3) seconds to initiate their shot once they start their attack.
- The goalkeeper must start on their goal line and cannot move until the attacker takes their first touch of the ball.
- All other players must remain behind the halfway line until the breakaway is complete.
- In the event of a shoot-out, all players on the roster are eligible to shoot once. A winner is determined firstly after 3 shooters, or sudden death thereafter.
PLAYER/BENCH PERSONNEL EJECTION (YELLOW/RED CARD):
Referees have the right to dismiss a player OR bench personnel from the game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants sending off. RED CARD suspension = Rest of game PLUS next game. Tournament Director may dismiss player or bench personnel for the rest of the tournament. A team official guilty of misconduct will be shown a YC (caution) or RC (sending off)*; if the offender cannot be identified, the senior coach who is in the technical area at the time will receive the YC/RC
SPORTSMANSHIP:
Players, coaches and spectators are expected to act in the nature of good sportsmanship at all times. Abuse of the referees will not be tolerated. Any instance of such conduct will disqualify the responsible team from the event. When teams are not scheduled on-field they must not be disrupting other teams or encroaching onto the playing surface.
SITUATIONS THAT THESE RULES DO NOT ADDRESS ARE THE DECISION OF THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR. ALL DECISIONS BY THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR WILL BE FINAL.
