2021 Community Spring League Update

We can’t wait to see you this SPRING!

Thank you for your patience while we continue to plan for the 2021 KYSA Community Spring League season. Given the current circumstances, we understand that there may be some uncertainty and wanted to provide you with an update on where we stand. Please do reach out to us with any questions you may have. We are happy to help and appreciate any thoughts or feedback you may have at this time.

1) PHO Update

Currently, all soccer activities must be socially distanced (i.e. no contact). We expect these restrictions to be relaxed as we get closer to April but have yet to hear any firm communication from the PHO and viaSport to support this. Below is a link where we have outlined our various planning scenarios and we will continue to provide updates as we receive them.

2) Registration Deadline

We have extended the registration deadline to Friday, March 26th. We will NOT be extending the registration deadline past this point. The feedback we have received indicates that some of our membership wants to ‘wait & see’ before registering. To allow for this, and with an uncertain start date for contact play this is the latest we can wait while still allowing us to organize teams and prepare to play by the middle of April.

3) Scenarios for the Start of Play

With the uncertainty surrounding when contact play will be permitted we are planning for the start of play in one week increments. Once we receive information that the restrictions for youth sport will allow contact play, we will communicate a start date for the season. The earliest that we will begin play is April 12th. Please take a look at the scenarios we have laid out (HERE). Scenarios for the initiation program (U3 to U7) are outlined at the bottom of the document.

SPRING REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED

We can’t wait to see you this SPRING!

UPDATED EXTENSION (as of Feb 19, 2021): The spring registration deadline has been further extended to Friday, March 5th.

Due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 and the current province-wide restrictions, we have extended the Community Spring League registration deadline to Friday, February 26th. This also means that our Community League Team Placement Policy (HERE) has been extended to February 26th.

KYSA’s 2021 Community Spring League and Initiation programs, sponsored by The Chopped Leaf and Forward Law, have been planned with an assumption that we will be operating at Phase 2 or improved Phase 3 Return to Play conditions (as outlined by the BC Soccer Guidelines HERE). We intend to operate the Spring League with the ability to play games. Any deviation from this will be communicated to all members when relevant.

Register your child now with confidence! If we are unable to provide a spring season as communicated, a prorated refund/credit will be provided.

A Family Discount is provided for families with three or more children enrolled in KYSA’s Community Spring League and/or Select Program. The discount is 10% off of each child’s registration. This discount is automatically applied when you register.

Financial Support is available through KidSport, Jump Start and KYSA’s Hardship fund. For more information, click here.

KYSA ANNOUNCES NEW PRESIDENT

The Kamloops Youth Soccer Association (KYSA) held a regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting on Monday night (December 14).

The meeting is the first to take place following the organization’s Annual General Meeting, which was held on November 26th. It is at this meeting that the board selects its President and Vice-President for the coming year and assigns various responsibilities to its directors.

Tony Cuzzetto was chosen to preside over the association. Tony has been on the KYSA Board of Directors since November of 2012. He replaces Candace Dodson-Willis, who served as President of KYSA for the past four years. Candace will take on the Vice-President role this season.

Four board members’ terms expired at the association’s recent AGM and all four returned to the Board for another term. The other members of the KYSA Board of Directors are Corinn Bell, Jeff Murphy, Dennis Piva, Chris Russo and Andrew Williams.

The KYSA has a paid staff consisting of full-time employees Missy Cederholm (Executive Director), Ciaran McMahon (Technical Director) and Mark Bell (Senior Staff Coach) and part-time employee Carolyn Birch (Office Administrator). Justine Rinaldi is the organization’s contracted Bookkeeper.

INDOOR PROGRAMS – PHASE 2 STARTS JANUARY 4TH

Phase 2 of KYSA’s Indoor Programs, sponsored by Hansport, start on January 4th. All sessions take place at the Warner Rentals Soccer Dome.

Under the current restrictions, our programs have shifted to socially distanced training. We will continue to follow all public health orders and modify programming as required.
