ALL coaches and managers are required to meet a minimum standard of training and education as outlined below. In addition to the mandatory standards, the KYSA has additional preferred courses that we feel will benefit you in your support of the players in your charge.

Canada Soccer Age Specific Grassroots Courses provide coaches with a grounding in basic soccer training approaches and strategies for players of varied ages and developmental stages.
- Active Start (U3 to U6)
- Fundamentals (U7 to U9)
- Learning to Train (U10 to U13)
- Soccer For Life (U14 to U18)
Each age specific course is delivered in two parts – Part 1 (online) can be taken at your own pace and Part 2 (in-person) as scheduled below. You will need to complete Part 1 before you are able to register for Part 2. It is recommended that you allow 2 weeks for your pre-requisite credit from Part 1 to transfer over and approve you to register for Part 2.
- Volunteer Coaches are required to complete the course relevant to the age group(s) they are working with.
- Paid coaches are required to complete all courses.
BC Soccer tracks certification levels for you in their course management system called Coach Centre. Please follow these steps to ensure that BC Soccer has your accurate details to credit your account:
- Create a Coach Centre account HERE. If you already have one, please proceed to step 2.
- You must use the same Coach Centre credentials (full name and email address must match) when registering for the online theory (Part 1) HERE.
- Once you have completed the online theory course, you can register for the on-field practical workshop (PART 2) HERE (use the access code below) to complete your full certification.
Dates & Access Codes for Part 1 course: This is taken virtually on your own time. Coaches must pay up front and be reimbursed by KYSA.
Dates & Access Codes for Part 2 course in Kamloops – Part 2 dates are TBA. An access code will be provided to coaches when registration opens.
Respect In Sport: Activity Leader Program educates coaches to recognize, understand and respond to issues of bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination (BAHD). Certificates are valid for 5 years. Respect In Sport: For Parents will help define a standard of behaviour for all parents and create a more rewarding, safe and respectful environment for everyone involved. Parents want to do a great job supporting their kids. Respect in Sport provides parents with the tools to create and maintain Safe Sport environments. Click HERE to register for the course or access an existing certificate completed for us or any other organization. This course is a $12 program. KYSA does not reimburse for this course.
NCCP: Rule of Two eLearning module helps coaches ensure all interactions and communications are open, observable and justifiable. Registration for this course is through the NCCP Coaches Locker.
NCCP: Emergency Action Plan eLearning module prepares coaches to respond calmly, quickly, and effectively if a sport participant is seriously injured during practice or competition. Registration for this course is through the NCCP Coaches Locker.
NCCP: Making Headway Concussion eLearning Series is designed to help you gain the knowledge and skills required to ensure the safety of your athletes. The Making Head Way NCCP module covers: what to do to prevent concussions, how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion, what to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion, and Return to Play and Return to Learn protocols. NCCP: Making Ethical Decisions eLearning module equips coaches to handle challenging ethical situations with confidence and surety. It helps coaches identify the legal, ethical, and moral implications of difficult situations that present themselves in team and individual sports. Registration for this course is through ViaSport HERE or you can challenge the evaluation directly via the NCCP Coaches Locker. NOTE: KYSA will only reimburse coaches for one of the two methods of completion.
NCCP: Safe Sport Training eLearning module provides coaches the tools to recognize, address, and prevent maltreatment in sport. Registration for this course is through the NCCP Coaches Locker.
Supporting Positive Behaviours is a 1.5 hour e-learning module and focuses on managing group behaviour when working with kids of all abilities, particularly those who struggle with engagement in team environments and may have challenging behaviour. Register HERE using the code: JSCAN-A2B3C4D
